Lebanon says 11 killed in Israeli airstrikes

Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Saturday killed at least 11 people, described as the deadliest incident since a June ceasefire framework was reached, prompting condemnation from Lebanese officials and a warning of retaliation from Hezbollah. A strike on the village of Ansar killed seven people, while a second strike on Deir al-Zahrani killed four; other strikes and shelling were reported near the Ali Taher ridge and several other southern towns. The Israeli military said the strikes targeted Hezbollah infrastructure in retaliation for an action by Hezbollah against Israeli forces, and said it killed two Hezbollah commanders. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and President Joseph Aoun criticized the strikes as violations of the ceasefire, while Hezbollah said it would respond and criticized ongoing negotiations with Israel, which have included seven rounds of talks, the most recent held earlier this month.
