Ukraine's monthly civilian casualties highest since 2022
The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission reported that civilian casualties in Ukraine reached their highest monthly level in July since May 2022, amid intensified Russian strikes. Recent attacks included a Russian drone strike on a passenger train in Ukraine's Odesa region that killed two crew members, and strikes on Kramatorsk and Zaporizhzhia that killed and wounded civilians. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for more air defense support from allies, while Russia reported an increase in its own civilian casualties and said its forces seized a village in the Donetsk region.
