Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected a fifteen point Gaza peace plan backed by President Trump. BBC News headlined it "Israel rejects Trump's 15-point plan for Gaza, Netanyahu says". The Wall Street Journal headlined it "Israel Rejects Next Phase of Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan".
Netanyahu said Israeli forces will not withdraw from Gaza until Hamas gives up its weapons entirely. The Daily Wire headlined it "Netanyahu Rejects Trump’s Gaza Plan: No Withdrawal Until Hamas Gives Up ‘All Weaponry’". "We went to war with a central goal: the destruction of Hamas,"1, The Daily Wire said.
The rejection was described in stronger terms as well. Al Jazeera English headlined it "Why Netanyahu’s ‘coup’ against Gaza plan risks endless war". "These positions represent a clear and explicit coup against the negotiation path and its outcomes, deliberately obstruct the path to calm, and greatly reinforce the state of humanitarian deterioration,"2, Al Jazeera English stated.
A separate assessment questioned whether the rejection would be the end of the matter.
One report suggested Netanyahu was not interested in reaching a deal and called for pressure from Washington. "Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has no interest in agreeing to a deal. For relief to come to Gaza, real US pressure must be exerted"3, The Guardian said.
