Senators head for the exits without meeting Trump's demands for voting bill

The Senate left Washington for its summer recess early Saturday without passing the SAVE America Act, a voter integrity bill that President Trump had pushed lawmakers to approve. Before leaving, senators confirmed Todd Blanche as the 88th attorney general and passed a short-term government funding extension into early December. The chamber also blocked a narrower voter ID bill from Sen. Jon Husted, R-Ohio, and did not vote on bills covering cryptocurrency regulation or college sports compensation, or on a budget reconciliation framework that Trump had paused over concerns it lacked votes. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he believes another reconciliation bill will be needed, and the chamber is set to return the third week of September to address the crypto and college sports legislation.
