Exiled PM Sheikh Hasina vows return to Bangladesh

Ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, speaking from exile in New Delhi, said she plans to return to Bangladesh in December despite facing a death sentence. Her remarks, delivered via audio message at a Foreign Correspondents' Club of South Asia event, prompted Bangladesh's foreign ministry to protest to India, calling the event harmful to bilateral relations and reiterating its extradition demand. Bangladesh's interim government had barred domestic media from publishing her statements, though the speech circulated on social media. The event fell on the second anniversary of the 2024 uprising that removed Hasina from power, an occasion Bangladesh also marked by opening a museum documenting the protests.
