Tennis star Sabalenka supports sport's new sex test policy

WTA world number one Aryna Sabalenka publicly voiced support for the Women's Tennis Association's new sex eligibility policy, which requires a one-time genetic screening for all players on the women's tour. The WTA announced in July that its Women's Eligibility Policy will be based on biological sex rather than gender identity, requiring players to be tested for the SRY gene via cheek swab or blood sample. Sabalenka said the policy helps maintain fairness in competition and stated she is willing to be tested herself. She had made similar comments in December 2025 about the issue of transgender athletes in women's sports.
