Man arrested over death of British woman found in suitcase in Athens

Greek police arrested a 26-year-old Afghan national in connection with the death of Elisabeth-Jane Ross, a 38-year-old Scottish charity worker whose body was found in a suitcase in an abandoned building in the Kypseli area of Athens on July 18. Authorities said the suspect confessed and now faces charges of intentional homicide, robbery and firearms-related offenses; a replica pistol and a knife were recovered from his home. Police said the suspect placed the body in a suitcase, moved it to the abandoned building, and used the victim's bank cards to withdraw money in the days that followed. Ross had arrived in Greece in late June and was last known to be in Athens on July 10 before being reported missing; investigators are now focusing on her final hours to try to determine a motive, and according to reports the suspect said the victim was already dead when he found her, though police did not mention this in their statement.
