Indonesia: At least 5 dead in ferry fire
A ferry, the KMP Mutiara Sentosa 2, caught fire while sailing in the Java Sea off Madura island as it traveled from Surabaya to Makassar, Indonesia. At least five people died and 41 were reported missing, with some passengers rescued after jumping overboard while other vessels stood by unable to approach due to flammable material. Indonesian authorities, including the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) and the Ministry of Transportation, said search and rescue operations continued as the cause of the fire remained unclear and the ship's captain had not been reachable since reporting the blaze.
