Massive Attack respond after Singapore ban over Palestine display

Singapore has banned British band Massive Attack from performing in the country after two members displayed a Palestinian flag during a July 29 concert in Singapore, an act authorities say breached laws restricting public display of foreign flags and political expression. Band members Robert Del Naja and Grant Marshall received stern warnings over alleged offences under two laws, and police said they will not be allowed to re-enter Singapore or perform there again. The band said in an Instagram post that some members were detained by police, questioned separately, and subjected to hotel room searches and temporary passport confiscation, calling the experience surreal and saying they did not expect holding up the flag to violate any law. Singapore, which restricts public speech and assembly, has said such rules are needed to preserve racial and social harmony and has previously fined people for an unauthorized pro-Palestinian walk.
