Wisconsin tornado causes extensive damage and cuts power to thousands

A tornado struck north-eastern Wisconsin on Monday, causing extensive damage in the Fox Cities region, which includes Appleton, Menasha and Neenah and is home to more than 100,000 people. The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado in Winnebago county, about 90 miles north-west of Milwaukee, where Menasha police chief Matt Albrecht said some homes and businesses were severely impacted. The storm blackened the midday sky, ripped roofs off homes, flipped vehicles, scattered debris across a highway, toppled trees and power lines, and knocked out power to more than 30,000 people. No deaths had been reported as of Tuesday, when first responders were searching homes and buildings for possible victims.
