Senator Rand Paul released more than 1,000 pages of Anthony Fauci's pandemic-era diary ahead of a subpoenaed Senate hearing. During that hearing, Fauci invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination 111 times while declining to answer questions.
Following the hearing, Paul introduced a resolution to hold Fauci in contempt of Congress. State attorneys general in Florida and Louisiana said they would investigate Fauci further.
Reason reported that Fauci solicited opinions from 12 other scientists as to the possibility of COVID-19 having originated as a result of U.S.-supported, gain-of-function experiments in Wuhan, China, noting in his diary that 10 of the 12 had serious concerns.
NPR stated that many scientists say this thought process reflects how their consensus changed as the understanding of COVID-19 evolved.
The Intercept argued that Rand Paul is trying to put Anthony Fauci in prison for not confirming a conspiracy theory, but the key to blunting the next pandemic is universal healthcare.
